Treading lightly

It’s amazing how closely you watch yourself after an injury. Today I spent my concentration on running as lightly as possible on the treadmill. My senses were alive like a giant dashboard listening for every sensation coming from my left knee as I ran as carefully as possible. When I rose out of this second-by-second immersion I was very happy. It looks like my knee will be fine after all!

I managed the run at 10km/h and all went well. True I didn’t feel I could open up fully to find my stride, but this will probably be a useful feeling to foster for the big day itself. There’s going to be a whole lot more track to cover than I ever have before in two weeks time!

I ran 4km in 23 minutes and 24 seconds (10.2km/h). It was rewarding to make it all the way through at 10km/h without any sign of pain – to be honest it was harder to hold myself back and not rush for the finish. In the end I gave in and ran the last half kilometre at 11km/h. Got to finish in style!
